OpenAssistantGPT Web Search

Web Search Documentation

The Web Search feature is a powerful tool that allows the chatbot to search the internet for information when it cannot find the answer in the provided files. This feature is designed to provide users with accurate and up-to-date information, even if the chatbot's knowledge base does not contain the answer.

How it Works

When the chatbot is unable to find the answer to a user's question in the provided files, it will use the Web Search feature to look up the information online. This ensures that the chatbot always provides a valid and accurate response to the user's query.

In addition to providing answers when the chatbot's knowledge base is limited, the Web Search feature can also be used to provide more accurate responses by combining the chatbot's existing knowledge with information found online. This allows the chatbot to provide more comprehensive and accurate responses to user queries.

How it is Used

The Web Search feature is used in the following scenarios:

  • When the chatbot's knowledge base is limited: If the chatbot is unable to find the answer to a user's question in the provided files, it will use the Web Search feature to look up the information online.
  • To provide more accurate responses: The chatbot can use the Web Search feature to combine its existing knowledge with information found online, providing more comprehensive and accurate responses to user queries.

OpenAI Assistant API Action

The Web Search feature is integrated with the OpenAI Assistant API, which allows the chatbot to seamlessly search the internet for information when needed. Here's how it works:

  1. User Input: The user types a message or query in the chat window.
  2. Assistant API Action: The OpenAI Assistant API analyzes the user's input and determines whether the chatbot's knowledge base contains the answer.
  3. Web Search Action: If the chatbot's knowledge base does not contain the answer, the Assistant API sends a request to the server to perform a web search.
  4. Search Results: The server processes the request and returns the search results to the Assistant API.
  5. Response Generation: The Assistant API uses the search results to generate a response to the user's query.

The Web Search feature is automatically triggered when the chatbot is unable to find the answer to a user's question in the provided files. However, users can also influence when the Web Search feature is used by:

  • Providing more context: Users can provide more context or information about their query, which can help the chatbot determine whether to use the Web Search feature.
  • Asking follow-up questions: Users can ask follow-up questions to clarify or seek more information, which can trigger the Web Search feature if the chatbot's knowledge base does not contain the answer.
  • Prompt: Web search can be triggered by instruction you add to your chatbot prompt. Quick example: "Only do websearch if the user ask for it".

Benefits

The Web Search feature offers several benefits, including:

  • Improved accuracy: The feature ensures that the chatbot always provides accurate and up-to-date information, even if its knowledge base is limited.
  • Enhanced user experience: The feature provides users with more comprehensive and accurate responses to their queries, enhancing the overall user experience.
  • Increased knowledge: The feature allows the chatbot to learn and improve its knowledge base by incorporating information found online.
